Lewis-Jay's Story

Lewis-Jay joined Carrington West in 2023 as an Associate Consultant. He had previously worked in a sales support role with a nationwide retailer, but decided he wanted to move to a more people facing role.

Why did you choose a career in recruitment?

Recruitment is a perfect fit for me being a driven and determined person. I love the fast-paced nature of the job – it keeps things interesting, and no two days are the same. The best part is, I get rewarded for the hard work I put in, making it a satisfying and progressive career choice.

What made you decide to join Carrington West over other recruiters?

Carrington West is all about self-development. The culture promotes constant growth, with success stories everywhere for inspiration. In just six months, I've achieved more than I could have ever imagined, thanks to the support and training provided. It's a place that truly values and nurtures your potential.

What has been the highlight of your time so far?

The highlight for me has been building new connections with the incredibly talented people across the business. Each of my colleagues brings a unique perspective to work and life, creating an interesting and enriching environment. The company-wide social events bring us all together too, turning the workforce into something that can be seen more as a close-knit family.

What has been your biggest challenge at work?

Starting in my role, I struggled with self-doubt, knowing it was going to be tough in something completely new. But once I got past that, I found my groove and have been doing well ever since. Carrington West's support has made me believe I can achieve things I never thought possible in my career.

What have you learned so far?

Trying to condense everything into a few sentences is a challenge! But one notable aspect for me is the improvement in my communication skills, a benefit that extends far beyond the realm of recruitment and effects every aspect of my life. Additionally, I've developed heightened resilience towards setbacks, which has toughened my mindset and somewhat transformed life's challenges into something of an enjoyable adventure.

What advice would you give to someone starting their career at Carrington West?

Here are the things I’d say to myself if I started again:
  1. Spend time actively listening to those around you; everyone knows something you don’t.
  2. Concentrate on things you can change and don't stress over things beyond your control.
  3. Don't be afraid to ask questions; the worst answer you’ll ever get is a "no," and that's okay, asking is how you learn.
  4. Every challenge in your life should start with this question: ‘What if I can do it?’
