Nathan's Story

Nathan joined us soon after graduating from the University of Portsmouth. He has progressed from an Associate Consultant to a Consultant, having thrown himself into our learning and development programme, passed his Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) exams and spent time gaining a deep understanding of the rail systems sector he works in.

What motivates you to get up in the morning?

Every day is a school day! The ability to learn more each day. In an industry such as the railway industry, there’s a great opportunity to learn more and more about the infrastructure that supports hundreds of thousands of commuters each day, giving you an insight into an industry most know little about. It is fascinating and I love how the staff we supply fit into the bigger picture

What is your favourite thing about working for Carrington West?

I really appreciate the flexibility Carrington West offer. I have the option to adjust my work hours to accommodate my lifestyle with flexible start and finish times and work from home some of the time. I also like our “dress for your diary” dress code, so I have the option to wear casual clothing when I am not going out to meetings.  But mostly I love the inclusive culture. CW is incredibly supporting and welcoming to all the current and new staff, it is friendly and everyone is very respectful.

What has been the highlight of your time at Carrington West?

My highlight so far has building relationships within the railway systems market. Having spent over a year within the sector, it’s exciting to meet and build relationships with clients, learning their culture and the deeper operations of their business, and adding an extra value to them beyond sourcing candidates.

What has been your biggest challenge at work so far?

I think the fact that I didn’t know anything about rail before I started has been the biggest challenge. With no prior experience in the rail industry or the recruitment industry, I had a lot to absorb straight away from technical knowledge about the jobs I hire for, but also understanding the processes and systems we use in recruitment.

What would your advice be to anyone starting their career at Carrington West?

Trust the processes. While you more than likely won’t understand why you’re initially doing certain things, those processes are there for your own benefit and it will significantly help you in the future.

Tell us one thing about yourself your colleagues don’t know!
